Crib Bedding

Kelsey's Crib Bedding

I always sew my kids crib bedding, mostly because it is cheaper and it wastes time when pregnancy seems to last an eternity for me. I have to stay busy or I just loose my mind!

The crib always stays in my room. I am one of those Mothers that panics all night long and checks on her baby several times through out the night.  So having the crib in my room is a lot easier and gives me peace of mind. My bedding is gray so I wanted the crib to somewhat match my bedroom. I knew that I wanted the color gray to somehow be incorporated into the crib bedding. I did not want chevron print though! I dont like to go along with trends and chevron print, especially gray and white chevron is super popular right now.

I made a trip to Joanns and found the perfect fabric! It had a gray background with pink flowers and green leaves! I fell in love with it! Except they only had a few yards of it. I bought it anyway and went online once I got home to see if I could order more there. I found it in stock in a store where my parents live in California so I called my mom and asked her if she could pick it up and mail it to me. I was so relieved to have found enough fabric to make all her bedding plus extras with it!

It took me awhile to figure out exactly how I wanted to use the fabric and if I wanted to play off the pink flowers or the green leaves. I couldnt decide! So i went with both pink and green! Next, I got brave and took on making a four level dust ruffle. It was really time consuming but in the end it came out great and I was thrilled with it!

Next I decided to make a custom quilt/wall hanging. I wanted it to be hung right above the crib and I didnt want it to be a standard patchwork quilt with plain squares. I didnt have a pattern so I just cut fabric and pieced it together on the floor. Then I started sewing it together. I added pink rick rack to my green pieces, appliqued on green leaves to the pink pieces with some hand embroidery details, and I made flowers out of felt to add onto the gray pieces. The felt flowers took me a while, I hand cut them out and hand stitched around them and the flower details with a button in the middle. I also appliqued the letter 'K' on it for Kelsey!

I wanted to incorporate pink in my bedroom to match also so I found this pink basket that I placed diapers in.

I made a matching pillow for my rocking chair and a nursing cover with the extra fabric also.

Cakes I made this year, 2014

Bradley's 2nd Birthday

Bradley loves animals so I made this fun cake for him.

Cowgirl Cake

I made one just like this last year for my friend at school. Another friend from school asked me to make one for her daughters cow girl themed birthday party. This was my first paid cake job!

Baby Shower Cake:

My sister in law asked me to make a cake for her baby shower. She asked for it to be green and pink to match her shower theme. This was also my first time doing fondant over a double layer cake, I was a little nervous but it went really smooth! The 'sweet baby' is a sticker decal for scrap booking that was placed on the cake for her to remove and use later. She loved it!

This cake was made for a friend starting her battle with Cancer. Some women from church were throwing her a 'hat party' the day before she was shaving her head. I was asked if I would make a cake in her favorite colors, blue and yellow with flowers. I also put the words, faith, love, hope, strength... and I cant remember what else that wrapped around to the back.

I was asked to make a cake that would be a silent auction at my kids school fundraiser night. This was my first failed cake! haha! My original intention was to make a lady bug cake but i realized last minute I didnt have anymore red. So I decided to make a turtle! Thought it was a great idea until the turtle was too big for the cake... I just left the funny looking turtle on the side and they were auctioned separately.

Zack's 9th Birthday Cake

This cake is really plain and simple but my son still loved it! He wanted to have a Nerf gun party so I made this cake for him.

 Haylee's 8th Birthday Cake

The weekend we were going to have Haylee's party I ended up having our daughter Kelsey. So my sweet Haylee had to wait two weeks to have her party. Luckily at two weeks postpartum I was feeling well enough to make the Lego friends cake she asked for.

My friend asked me to make a butterfly cake for her daughters 1st birthday party.

Anna Doll Cake

I was asked to make this cake. I was really nervous. Ive never done a doll cake and I was being paid good money to make this for a friends daughter so I didnt want to disappoint. It came out great and the sweet little girl loved it!

(the fondant was still wet from brushing it)

the KIDS bathroom

Before moving in:

The original floor plan for my house only had 1 sink, we paid extra to have the bathroom extended with another sink. Since this bathroom would be used by all my kids. I am so glad that we did! (even though it made my walk in closet smaller by doing so)

I fell in love with this Monkey décor from Target years ago! It's lasted and is all in good shape still! We've moved three times since having it all but I was never able to find wall décor to match the monkeys with out using pictures or anything with actual Monkeys. I felt that would be too much or might clash. (pictures from cell phone - sorry for the bad quality)

The kids each have their own cup that their own toothbrush and paste goes in! This solved so many tooth brushing dilemmas! When it's bed time and kids are already tired to begin with they would have a hard time sharing so they each get their own! They love to pick out their own paste and they are responsible for putting it back in their cup when done as well as cleaning up the counter. Bradley also has a matching cup with his name and baby tooth paste and tooth brush in it! I bought the letters from Target in the scrapbook/sticker isle and used mod podge to seal them on.
(again, phone picture, sorry it's blurry)

The Bathroom WITH added wall décor:

The floor: Just added two rugs and a step stool because my counters are too high for the kids.

I was so excited that I FINALLY, after years of searching, found wall décor that I loved!! These were all bought from Gordmans! (LOVE that store!)
The colors blended with the monkey's perfectly! How great is my "Moms Rules" canvas?

AND the back of the bathroom door holds all the hair accessories: I just used a mesh over the door shoe organizer and cut it a little shorter to hold all the clips! It's usually organized by color.

Close up, they clip right on through the mesh pocket or go in the pocket! Ive had this for years and it is still working perfectly!!

The GIRLS room!

First let me start by saying I wish I could put trim 3-4 feet up and paint the top pink and the bottom pink and purple stripes! BUT this isnt our forever home and the house will be sold or rented out one day, so in an effort to make that easier when the time comes we have chosen to leave all the walls their original color.
So just picture their walls painted in these pictures, because it would look SO MUCH cuter!!

DRAPES:
I wanted their room to have tie back drapes. I bought the purple drapes 3+ years ago from Wal-Mart. They are the Eclipse Energy Efficiet ones that I have to say really do work! Here in Idaho in the summer it stays light til 10pm! These drapes really help with keeping the sun out when they go to bed while it's still up. We were in a rental house before we built this one and that house had old windows where a lot of cold air seeped in. These drapes also helped to keep that cold out. All in all I love them!

I customized them!

I added three rows of ribbon to the top to tie them in more to their Happy Flower bedding. I love how they turned out!

I love natural sunlight! So I wanted to able to pull their drapes back during the day to let in some light. I just added little hooks and used ribbon to tie them. There are lots of ways to make tie backs, but this was definitely the easiest! I'm all about what's easy that will still looks pretty!

ORGANIZATION: Labeled Canvas Totes
I LOVE organized stuff! I have found that their room stays cleaner and the girls enjoy having a place for everything!
These are just canvas totes with printed labels that have been laminated and stuck on with Velcro.

Close up of one: I've had these totes for at least 3 years, they are a little roughed up, but still work perfectly! All the 'my little pony' toys belong in this tote ONLY and so on for the other ones.

ORGANIZATION: Plastic tubs
This is also one of my favorite ways to organize toys! My kids know what belongs where making clean up a breeze! They stack nicely, look clean and are very sturdy!

I like to print the actual picture or logo for the toy that is inside the tub. It gives a pretty visual look than just plan writing. And for the little ones they can usually identify the logo or picture of what belongs where before they can actually ready it.

These tubs work perfect for under the bed storage:

ORGANZATION: Closet
With out building 'built in closet' organization, which I love and will def do for our next house! For less than 10 bucks you can buy an additional closet rod that hangs down from the top one. This worked perfect. Haylee's shirts are on the top and Audrey's shirts are on the bottom on one side of the closet. Then the other side their dresses are hung since they hang longer.

And each of my girls have a shoe organizer.
Much nicer than a pile of shoes in the closet!

WALL DECOR:
Found the Butterfly Canvas at Gordmans and bought the mesh butterflies from Target.

Close Up:

These mesh flowers are from Target also. This wall still looks pretty 'blah' with out being painted pretty so I added the green fabric to the back of the flower to make them stand out a little more.
Close Up:

These pictures were both found at Gordmans also. I bought the first one then a year later they had the other one that matched perfect! I was so excited!

This wall is also very bare still, just haven't figured out what to put around the white board yet. I want to get a beautiful quote in vinyl I think... not sure, so it's staying bare for now! lol

BEDDING: Circo Happy Flower
I fell in love with this bedding years ago! I love the colors and the fabrics! It's been so easy to match décor to it!

DECOR: other stuff I love in their room

I picked this up at a thrift store. Its really cute! I put it on their desk and they keep lip gloss and little make-up items in it.

FLOWERS! I seriously love flowers! One day I will add A LOT more flowers to their room! I want to do a garden box thing with flowers in front of their window and I also want to make felt flowers and fabric flowers to decorate with also!

Circo Happy Flower also has a bathroom line so I picked these up from it. The tooth brush holder is used as a pencil holder. And I also bought the lotion pump and tissue box. I haven't been able to find the matching trash can, but Im still looking for one so I can place it under their desk for them.

Magnets for the Magnet Board are from shower curtain hooks! I broke off the hook and glued magnets to the back so they match also!

And of course hooks for their jackets!

I have a lot more little projects I want to do for their room, but I wanted to share what Ive already done so far. I also really need to update pictures in their room! I have so many adorable pictures of the girls that I need to print and put in their room! One day... for now I am happy with it and the girls LOVE it too!!
